Just a little space where I can vent my warped, skewed, jacked up viewpoint on how I see this country, and the world.
Do you feel the Country is becoming more and more divided

Papers Please!!!
When I heard about the new immigration law that was pasted in Arizona, at first I was outraged. I thought it was a set back in civil rights. I'm sure the law will work, hell, it doing that already ( Immigrants are leaving in droves). But in all of my indignant outrage, I had to remember one very important point, I don't live there. I didn't see what they were dealing with everyday. Now do I think some of the grievances were overrated? yep, I sure do. I don't think illegal immigrants are coming over here taking well paying jobs from US citizens, they are taking the jobs we didn't want when the economy booming. Now that things have gone south ( to turn a phrase), we want those low paying jobs, but now we find those positions filled by willing immigrant workers. What do we do? we get mad, we feel cheated because businesses are willing to hire "illegals that are willing to do that same job, that we looked down on before, for a wage that we find appalling. Then we sit back and rail against every who we feel is getting something over use. But who do we blame? not the business that hired them. Nope we blame that Latino worker and the government. I say our rage is a wee bit misplaced, we want to control immigration, we need to control our boarders. But we also need to hold the business that are hiring them accountable . We need to hold them accountable for hiring undocumented people to work for nearly nothing, just for the sake of increasing their profit margin. But that raises another question, What if we got rid of all the illegal immigrant workers in the US. All of those jobs they were stealing from American citizens were now open, at the same low salaries, and the employer refuses to raise the rate of pay ? What are we willing to work for? how low of a wage is acceptable? If we demand hire wages in jobs that normally paid low ,usually minimum wages, all the employer is going to do is pass the increase on to the consumer, you and I. How much will we willing to pay for our goods and services then? Its kind of a double edged sword isn't it? We want our goods and services, and we want them at a low price. We want to work, its part of our culture, and our jobs to pay well. and there is nothing wrong with that. But since we are a Capitalist society who believes in commerce, we want business to make a profit. One way business does that is by keeping labor cost down. And what better way to do this than to find workers willing to work for a low wage. This works fine in a booming economy, when jobs are plentiful, but not so well in a recession. So I ask the question, how low of a salary will we work for ? and how high of a cost are we willing to pay for goods and services? This is just one question in the immigration debacle, that offers no easy answers.
